Kicking off a new website here, so new beginnings are on my mind. I will admit, being the staunch Scandinavian that I am, I really just wanted my new site to look and function just like my last one. Change is hard! But it's so good for us too. I often troll Pinterest looking for great quotes; some of my favorites (especially given the last few years of my life), have been about change.
"If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you."
"One Day or Day One ~ you decide"
"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten."
"Change begins at the end of your comfort zone."
I've heard it said that people typically change for one of two reasons - their minds have opened or their hearts have been broken. In my case, maybe both?
Another admission, I am guilty of hiding in my comfort zone - jobs, painting, social circles, fitness, creative pursuits - it's not often that I venture off my well-trodden path to try something new, take risk or truly push myself.
Last summer however, I did embark on an unexpected challenge - I bought an old house with the intent to update & restore it. It's been an incredible experience. An exercise in patience, self-controls, budgeting, stamina, physical rigor and more patience. While I'm far from done, it pushed be out of my comfort zone in many regards - physically, emotionally, financially.
So in 2018, if you see me or my work ~ please push me by asking how I have challenged myself lately - I need this! I'll be using a new space in the Solar Arts Building, we'll be open First Thursdays each month. My goal is to use this monthly "opening" to create new work, try something new, reach new audiences.
If not for the art, come out for the beer! Hope to see you there sometime soon ~
